Shredders
Shredders turn End-of-Life Tyres into secondary raw materials. Through low temperature mechanical processes, they separate rubber, steel, and textile fibres that are then sent back to the productive cycle as resources for industries, sports, the building sector, and infrastructures.
The shredding plants of the Ecopneus chain operate exclusively in Italy, thus assuring a whole traceability and compliance with all rules and regulations.

The role of the chain
After being taken to the shredding centres, ELTs are checked to verify their compliance with all regulatory requirements. ELTs subsequently undergo progressive mechanical shredding, which reduces the material into smaller and smaller pieces.
During this process, magnetic separation systems extract the steel. Textile fibres, instead, are separated from the rubber. At the end of the process, every component is ready to be valorised.
How the companies are selected
The selection is carried out by the means of e-tenders held every three years. They are managed by an independent platform to assure transparency.
The interested companies can freely join the Ecopneus Supplier Register. They must subsequently access the procedures for taking part in the selection.
The three-year contracts assure operative continuity, regular flows of materials and timely payments. This allows companies to plan investments in technologies, means and qualified members of staff .
Ecopneus evaluates the offers according to criteria of overall efficiency: specific experience, productive capacity, technological equipment, financial stability, and elements of environmental impact reduction. Price is not the sole criterion for selection.
Quality and certified standards
Quality standards are verified by the means of periodical audits and constant monitoring of operative performances. The certifications currently held by the shredding companies confirm the high network level:
- 100% of companies are ISO 9001 certified (Quality Management System)
- 94% of companies are ISO 14001 certified (Environmental Management System)
- 95% of companies are OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 certified (Safety Management System)
Compulsory requisites to operate in the chain
- Authorisations issued with ordinary or IEA procedure
- Registration with RENTRI
- Documented productive capacity
- Certified weighing systems
- Consolidated experience in the sector
- No criticalities with reference to professional and ethics reliability
Plant located all over the Italian territory
The shredding plants operate in several Italian regions. This assures geographical proximity to all Collection Centres and also an optimisation of logistics flows all over the Italian territory. All plants are located in Italy, thus assuring full traceability and financial benefits for the territory.
