Who we are
The Italian national leader in the sustainable management of End-of-Life Tyres
Ecopneus is a non-profit consortium. Since 2011, it has managed the collection, treatment, and recovery of End-of-Life Tyres all over the Italian territory. Ecopneus is Italy’s main operator of this sector.
Ecopneus was founded by the main tyre producers and importers in Italy. Nowadays, it has 49 partners that operate according to the principle of the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR): those who sell tyres on the market, they must also be responsible for the correct management of their end of life.
The system is based on eco-fees. They are an amount paid upon the purchasing of tyres that is destined to cover the costs of collection, treatment, and recovery of End-of-Life Tyres.
An integrated system at national level
Ecopneus manages and coordinates a chain composed of ELT collectors, transporters, shredding companies and ETL-derived material users that work throughout all Italian provinces.
This network managed about 170,000 tons of End-of-Life Tyres in 2024, turning them into secondary raw materials for Italian businesses. This represents a strategic asset for the company.

Innovation and commitment towards the circular economy
The activities of Ecopneus go well beyond the daily management of ELTs. Research, technological development and partnerships with universities and specialised centres turn recycled rubber into a strategic resource for several sectors: from sports to the building sector, infrastructures and industry. The system helps to reduce imports of raw materials and contributes to the reaching of the Italian national circular economy objectives.
Moreover, Ecopneus is committed to the training of operators and decision-makers of the Public Administration. It also aims at promoting a culture of legality and technical support for the implementation of sustainable solutions.
Quality and certified transparency
Ecopneus complies with certified standards to assure quality and respect of the environment throughout all the chain:
Every ELT is traced from its production to its final recovery. The data are reported to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and can be consulted in real time.
