Stories of rebirth: “Daniela – Running like a gesture of love”

To me, the Marathon is like a journey. A journey with myself up to the finish line, which marks the end of that journey and the beginning of something new.

Daniela’s story was told on occasion of Rome’s Marathon. It is a story that falls within the journey told by Ecopneus, where transformation takes place in the course of time and every way can generate a new beginning – just like what happens to materials. It can also lead to new possibilities and create a path that leads to the future.

Daniela has run for over ten years. Running has become part of her life. It is a habit naturally built, day after day, to demonstrate to herself that she can make it, in spite of everything.  In the course of the years, running went from being a simple activity to a way for accompanying the most touching moments of her life, going through them and giving them a shape.

She decided to run her first marathon – Rome’s Marathon – dedicating it to her mother Teresa, who was going through a difficult moment due to leukaemia.  From that moment on, marathons crossed with her mother’s disease, her healing, and rebirth. Every race became a step of that path. It was a way of being there, to transform effort into presence and closeness. In this merging of stories and ties, there was also the fundamental gesture of Teresa’s sister, aunt Lina, who gave Teresa a second chance thanks to transplant, making that path even more meaningful.

Every marathon  for Daniela is a journey with herself and every race has a special meaning. It represents a dedication, a gesture of care and love and transforms the finish line into something that goes beyond the individual dimension, but it is full of meaning.

This time, Daniela has decided to dedicate Rome’s marathon to herself.  Crossing the finish line is not only a sports goal; it is the sign of a journey that continues, made with presence, dedication, memory and emotions.

A trace that is built in the course of time.
