This year Festambiente will have a new sports area. Obviously it will be done its way, with a state-of-the-art 3×3 Tyrefield basketball court made with over 4,000 kg of recycled rubber from End-of-Life Tyres.
Thanks to Ecopneus, the main company responsible for ELT management in Italy, and with the support of DIFE, a 180 sq/m basketball court was made using an amount of recycled rubber equivalent to the weight of 450 automobile tyres. The particular composition of the field allows a playability comparable to the best professional courts, with the certainty of a comfortable surface that can absorb eventual accidental falls.
The Tyrefield court made is specific for 3×3 basketball. This discipline will debut at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. It is becoming more and more successful in our country also thanks to the triumph of the women’s Italian National Team at the latest edition of the world championships held in Manila (Philippines) in June.
However, the basketball court is only the latest example of the great potentiality and of the many possible solutions for using recycled rubber, which is possible to see in Festambiente. On top of the cycling lane and benches, urban furbishing and seats placed in the various areas of the Festival will be made in recycled rubber. Indeed, in the course of the years, thanks to Ecopneus, a recycled rubber city has been created. This goes from the play areas to the acoustic insulation of the auditorium.
The Tuttingioco Park was made by Ecopneus in 2016. It is equipped with “inclusive” recreation facilities designed for both normally endowed and disabled children. The equipment is based on activities which, by the means of the stimulation of the five senses, favour the children’s integration with the environment and their playmates. The youngest ones will be able to learn music treading on the big colourful buttons of the “sound way”; they will enjoy playing a giant xylophone or playing on mobile chairs, from which is it possible to launch a ball that emits sounds, drive a fast car, or throw a ball on a sticky flower.
Auditorium (ex-Enaoli Church)
No more confused sounds, words that are difficult to understand, or shows and events penalised by bad acoustics. Inside the ex-Enaoli church, a comfortable and versatile environment has been created, using sustainable products and 36 sound absorbing/reflecting panels. These panels contain recycled rubber from ELTs. After this intervention, the church regularly hosts many conferences, shows and concerts.
A synthetic turf field with recycled rubber. This is the place where boys and girls will be able to test their skills in many disciplines such as: football, rugby and Circus School, thanks to the educators of Legambiente and the involved sports clubs.
Relaxation area for families and sustainable furnishing
A comfortable flooring in recycled rubber with benches and seats make up the relaxation area dedicated to the families looking for some rest after the many activities of the Festival. A soft rubber walkway, instead, leads the visitors in the Sustainable Living Area, where a cycle lane has also been installed as well as other objects such as: seats, benches, flowerpots and bicycle racks. All made with recycled rubber.
