An innovative, state-of-the-art sports surface, made with technologically advanced, “green” materials thanks to the recycling of two tonnes of rubber from End-of-Life tyres coming also from vehicles used by the Army.

The Army’s Logistics Commander, General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, has inaugurated the new gym of the Barracks “M.O.V.M. Emilio Bianchi”- the headquarters of the Army’s Logistics Command. This gym has an innovative surface made with 2 tonnes of rubber recycled from End-of-Life Tyres (ELTs).

Several Officers, the COMLOG’s Chief of Staff, and a large number of members of staff of the Logistics Command have taken part in the inauguration ceremony.

The technologically-advanced surface of the gym has been created thanks to Ecopneus. Ecopneus is the non-profit company of reference in the management of End-of-Life Tyres in Italy. The collaboration of Ecopneus with the Army started with the creation of surfaces in recycled rubber for dogs’ and horses’ stables of Grosseto’s Veterinary Military Centre.

Thanks to the collaboration with Ecopneus, the new gym of the Logistics Command has an innovative, state-of-the-art, sports surface with technologically advanced material which is also fully recycled thanks to the recovery of two tonnes of rubber from End-of-Life Tyres, derived also from the vehicles used by the Army.

The General Manager of Ecopneus, Mr Giovanni Corbetta, stated: We are proud of having been allowed to put our skills to the Army’s disposal for the creation of anti-shock surfaces in the gym of the Logistics Command. The indoor Tyrefield sports surfaces made with rubber recycled from End-of-Life Tyres allow to practice sports activities with maximum comfort and safety”.

In his speech, the Logistics Commander, Gen. C.A. Figliuolo, expressed great satisfaction for the creation of this new surface, highlighting the importance of the synergies they have set up with Ecopneus for the promotion of sports activities in the Army. Moreover, General Figliuolo highlighted how this project can be seen as an example and a starting point for further collaboration in the future. These solutions are useful for all staff; they are cheap, environmentally friendly, and make of recycling their strength in order to reduce waste in all sectors.

The creation of the gym has been the latest of a long series of collaborations between Ecopneus and the Army. Some examples here below:
